The American Revolution

Director: Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, & David Schmidt

Production Company: Florentine Films

The American Revolution, a six-part, twelve-hour film series on America’s founding struggle, presents the story of the men and women of the Revolutionary generation. Piecing together accounts of American political leaders and their British counterparts with the perspectives of the so-called ordinary people who waged and witnessed war, The American Revolution will be a nuanced look at the virtues and the contradictions in the fight for independence and the birth of the United States. The series will be released in November 2025.

My image research for Florentine Films touched on different aspects of the American Revolution. I visited some of the foremost sources of Revolutionary War images in the Boston area: the Bunker Hill Museum, the Concord Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and compiled images of the early moments of the war. I was also responsible for researching images of African American soldiers, and representations of members of Native Nations in the time frame leading up to and during the American Revolution.

Superfine: Tailoring Black Style

Authors: Monica Miller (author), Andrew Bolton, William DeGregorio, Amanda Garfinkel, Tyler Mitchell (Photographer)

Publisher: The Metropolitan Museum of Art / Distributed by Yale University Press

Superfine: Tailoring Black Style traces the complex and vibrant legacy of menswear across three centuries of Black culture—from today’s hip-hop aesthetic and popular street trends, through its use during the Harlem Renaissance and the civil rights movement as a symbol of creative and political agency, to its surprising origins as an imposed uniform for servants and enslaved people.

I worked closely with the author and curators to research and track down all of the comparative images in this beautifully designed book. The catalogue was published in May 2025 to accompany the exhibition on view currently at the museum.

Richard Hudson

Author: Paul Moorhouse

Publisher: Rizzoli Electa

This is the first monograph on the renowned British sculptor, whose organic and sensual forms made of steel, bronze, and marble, with highly polished surfaces, have evolved into highly important large-scale projects around the world. Drawing inspiration from luminaries such as Henry Moore, Jean Arp, and Constantin Brancusi, Hudson creates work that is meticulously refined, timeless, and contemporary. Hudson’s imaginative forms are frequently emblematic of the human figure and, at the same time, possess reflective surfaces and evoke surreal reflections of the environment.

I gathered the comparative images for Paul Moorhouse’s essay about the artist. The book will be released in September 2025.

Rosario Candela & The New York Apartment: 1927-1937

Authors: David Netto, Paul Goldberger, and Peter Pennoyer, with a Foreword by Aerin Lauder

Publisher: Rizzoli

Known and celebrated for many of the apartment buildings on Park Avenue, Fifth Avenue, and in Sutton Place, Rosario Candela’s work is at once timeless and profoundly of its time. With in-depth essays by David Netto, Paul Goldberger, and Peter Pennoyer, the book features vintage black and white photography as well as lavish color imagery of the exteriors, original plans, and beautiful interiors. The design team at Matsumoto Incorporated of Takaaki Matsumoto and Amy Wilkins have created a book that does justice to Candela’s architectural legacy.

I collaborated with David Netto, his studio, and the designers in sourcing much of the vintage and contemporary photography in the book, which was released in October 2024.

Simone Rocha

Author: Simone Rocha, Contributions by Cindy Sherman and Petra Collins and Tim Blanks and Ed Templeton

Publisher: Rizzoli

Simone Rocha’s book runs from her first Fashion East collection after her graduation from St Martins to the year she launched menswear and before she started her guest designer role at Jean Paul Gaultier. It provides a gaze into the Irish designer’s world, one heavily inspired by the work of Louise Bourgeois and, undeniably, Rei Kawakubo of Commes des Garcons. Insightfully edited, designed, and crafted, it gathers catwalk images, shadowy editorials, and backstage imagery in a manner that stays true to the very nature of the world Rocha has created.

Working closely with Simone Rocha’s studio in London, I acquired many of the plate and comparative images shown throughout the book, which was published in October 2024.

Houses Natural / Natural Houses

Author: Philip Jodidio

Publisher: Rizzoli

Houses Natural/Natural Houses by Philip Jodidio reveals 51 designs that bring their residences into nature, even allowing the natural setting to enter the very walls, with priority given to sustainability and carbon footprint. The book’s collection spans the globe—from a remote bay on Bruny Island (Tasmania) to an isolated beach in Nicaragua or cabin perched above a fjord in Norway.

I worked with the architects and photographers to gather photographs of both the inside and outside of these sustainably designed homes. The book was published in September 2024.

Tadao Ando: Spirit: Places for Meditation and Worship

These include Hill of the Buddha in Sapporo, Japan, Meditation Space in Paris, as well as the Church of Light and the Water Temple, both in Japan.

I sourced the photos used in the essay by Philip Jodidio, author of many books about contemporary architecture and art. The book was released in February 2024.

Accompanying a major traveling exhibition, Second Nature is an ambitious and expansive approach to the ever-present climate crisis. Gathering the work of nearly fifty photographers and their unique aesthetic and conceptual perspectives on this urgent issue, May and Price have invited leading figures in a range of fields offering an interdisciplinary and, importantly, intersectional consideration of the Anthropocene.

I had the pleasure of sourcing most of the photography in this exhibition catalogue from the artists themselves or their galleries. The book was released in March 2024.

Max Weber and American Cubism

Authors: William C. Agee and Pamela N. Koob

This important volume encompasses a selection of Max Weber’s best cubist works and includes readings of Weber’s paintings as well as entries on key cubist works by Marsden Hartley, Stuart Davis, Hans Hofmann, Charles Sheeler, Morgan Russell, Stanton Macdonald-Wright, Alice Trumbull Mason, and David Smith, among many others. Filling in a missing piece of one of the twentieth century’s most influential movements, this critical reevaluation is long overdue.

I worked closely with Bill Agee and Pam Koob to track down all of the images in what proves to be a seminal book about American Cubism. It was released at the end of March 2023.

Mark Rothko

Author: Christopher Rothko and Kate Rothko Prizel and Alexander Nemerov and Hiroshi Sugimoto

Publisher: Rizzoli Electa

Illustrated with more than 275 images that explore Rothko’s paintings, prints, and works on paper, this book highlights the best-known and also lesser-known works by the artist—from his early figurative and Surrealist works to his mesmerizing color-field paintings of immense scale to the more restricted palette of his luminous later works and his final series of black-and-gray paintings.

I helped the Rothko family, Christopher Rothko and Kate Rothko Prizel, to track down some of Mark Rothko’s more obscure works in private collections and international museums to obtain high resolution digital files and to arrange for new photography to be shot. The book was released in November 2022.

Publisher: Rizzoli Electa

Toyin Ojih Odutola’s book chronicles the private lives of two fictional aristocratic Nigerian families, the UmuEze Amara Clan and the House of Obafemi, if colonialist and slave-trade interventions had never disrupted the country. The artist’s drawings in charcoal, pastel, and pencil, are set against the artist’s larger conceived narrative, highlighting the malleability of identity and assumptions about race, wealth, and class. Also included are several insightful essays on the artist herself by noted writers and critics Zadie Smith, Leigh Raiford, and others.

I acquired the essay texts and permission to use them from the authors. The book was published in October 2021.
