The American Revolution

Director: Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, & David Schmidt

Production Company: Florentine Films

The American Revolution, a six-part, twelve-hour film series on America’s founding struggle, presents the story of the men and women of the Revolutionary generation. Piecing together accounts of American political leaders and their British counterparts with the perspectives of the so-called ordinary people who waged and witnessed war, The American Revolution will be a nuanced look at the virtues and the contradictions in the fight for independence and the birth of the United States. The series will be released in November 2025.

My image research for Florentine Films touched on different aspects of the American Revolution. I visited some of the foremost sources of Revolutionary War images in the Boston area: the Bunker Hill Museum, the Concord Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and compiled images of the early moments of the war. I was also responsible for researching images of African American soldiers, and representations of members of Native Nations in the time frame leading up to and during the American Revolution.
